ABOUT :
Bandit comes from a remote community in Northern Quebec, where access to veterinary care is near impossible. His former guardian knew he needed more care than she could provide, and made the difficult decision to ask for help. He came to RAD as our first transfer from Chiots Nordiques - a group that not only provides veterinary care to remote Quebec communities but also finds adoptive homes for dogs from these areas in need.
In his foster home, Bandit has proved to be a marvellous companion. He is sweet and loving, calm, and enjoys spending time with his foster family (both the two and four legged ones!). His absolute favourite thing is spending time outdoors. If he had it his way, he would spend all day and night lounging out on the patio and exploring his yard.
When he first arrived to RAD, Bandit was extremely obese. We soon found out that he had hypothyroidism, a condition that is known to cause weight gain. He is now medicated, and will need to continue these medications life long. He is on a weight loss journey now, and follows a strict diet that is both reduced in calories and contains supplements for his joints. Bandit has arthritis in his hips, and his obesity makes this more sensitive. He tires easily on walks, but it is important for his new family to keep up with his weight loss and exercise plan to make sure this boy gets back in top shape!
Bandit’s ideal home would be one out of the city, with a nice secure yard where he can spend his time. Bonus points if there is a safe deck he can rest on! Bandit can be vocal in the house, and loves to sing. He lets his fosters know when he wants something, and will always join in when the other dogs in the home have something to say. He is NOT a fan of cats, squirrels or crates. He will try to chase small animals in the yard and gets very excited when he spots one on walks. He panics when he is crated - but when he is free in the home he is not destructive.
WORDS FROM HIS FOSTERS:
Bandit is the sweetest boy you'll ever meet! A true husky at heart, he is an easy-going, friendly and playful dog who is ready for his second chance in life. He loves to meet new people, gets along well with children and was happy to share his space with our two other dogs. He is a happy boy with a zest for life who loves his outdoor space, daily walks exploring the neighborhood and playing fetch in the backyard just as much as his lazy afternoon naps in the grass.
