FRESCA

WORDS FROM FRESCA’S NEW ADOPTERS: My fiancé and I always said that once we move into a house, we want to add a dog to the family. So here we are, wedding postponed to 2021 and bought a house in the meantime. All we were missing was a new family member to help fill this empty house. At that time, my friend adopted Boxer and Goose with RAD and was so in love with them. So we did our research on social media and that’s when we saw that RAD was going to rescue dogs from Lebanon, my fiancé’s home country. We recently came back from Lebanon where we got engaged in his hometown and thought saving a Lebanese dog would fit right into the family. It was meant to be! After the explosion and talking with family members in Lebanon, they told us owners were just dumping their dogs and fleeing the country. That’s when we decided to apply to foster/adopt.

RAD reached out to us to see if we were interested in Fresca, a lab retriever mix from Lebanon. The first day we met Fresca, she was very scared and anxious around everyone, specifically my fiancé. She was fine with women but terrified of men. She would growl and bark at my fiancé if he came close to her and would cry if I was out of her sight. We believe she was hit by men on the top of her head as she would not allow anyone to pet her from the top. She was always on edge, sleeping with eyes in the back of her head.

Two weeks in, she started to warm up to my fiancé and allowed him to scratch her belly and take her on walks alone. There was no way we were going to give her back.

Today, she is 100% not the dog that RAD dropped off. She is a sweet girl who loves to go on walks, to go in the car to see her new cousins Zeus and Zola, and likes a good movie night on the couch. Her anxiety towards men is still there but has improved so much as she approaches family members without fear.

We love her to death. Thanks so much RAD for giving us our honey Fresca!
