KIRBY

We pulled Kirby 2 hours prior to our flight leaving from an LA shelter. We had one spot left for a little dog and didn’t want to waste it. Kirby was in the back away from the public eye as he was a little feisty and filled with fear. Back in Montreal he had an amazing foster mom that took great care of him as he needed much decompression time. His foster mom needed to go away and Kirby went on to another foster who failed! He’s now loving his life with new mama and his best friend Bean!

WORDS FROM KIRBY’S NEW ADOPTER: So this is Kirby (formerly known as Prince). When I was first asked by the amazing RAD people to foster him, I never intended on adopting him since my pup, Bean, had just turned 1. I was only supposed to keep him for a couple of weeks until he found his forever home. When I picked him up he was shaky, fearful, was even growling at me and as soon as he was put on the ground he would go mark his territory. Bringing him home, I was worried how Bean would react to him and vice versa. I have to say though, it was love at first sight! Bean was over the moon to have a buddy...one that was his own size...for once! (he grew up always around his 2 BIG doggy besties) Bean used to have separation anxiety when I would leave him and all of sudden now with Kirby by his side he would practically push me out the door. As for Kirby, the lil man walked into my apartment as if it was his own right away. It's like he knew something before I did. He got attached to us pretty quickly and would follow me around everywhere (still does!). While my heart and brain were battling it out over him, I still remained skeptical because I honestly never though I'd end up with a chihuahua. Kirby however quickly changed my views on his bread. After just a few days I could see him becoming more playful more attentive more obedient and more loving. The moment that changed everything was after Kim asked me to bring him to meet a family and do a house check at the same time (it was not my first). Kirby was very unhappy to be there and I could feel it. He kept coming to hide behind me and as soon as I would sit he would jump on my lap. The family's youngest child told their parents "I feel bad taking him away from her he’s so attached". The next morning, I woke up to find Bean literally hugging and kissing Kirby. So obviously after all that, Kirby became the biggest foster fail! I mean Bean didn’t leave me much of a choice he probably would have never spoke to me again if I separated them. Couple months later, I can honestly say that adopting Kirby was the best decision I made for myself and Bean. He’s become such a good boy, he’s 95% potty trained (no more pee pads!) he has his own personality and just wants to play and give kisses...so many kisses. His favourite activity is being off leash at the dog run. For a dog that was supposedly not very active I can tell you he’s become almost as hyper as Bean. I’ve learned that the love you get from a dog that you've rescued is like no other there’s a loyalty that is strongly felt. We are forever grateful for Kim and Yossi from RAD for bringing this little nugget in our life (although Bean and I are still convinced they knew from the beginning that it would be a big time foster fail). These are amazing people helping amazing souls that can’t help or speak for themselves. Rescue All Dogs made the experience of rescuing a dog way less scary than I expected it to be. They were always there for any advise and they really are an incredible organization.
