ABOUT :

Meet Hilltop! Hilltop came to RAD via HSI, who had rescued him from an overpopulated shelter facility. He had spent about half his life in a shelter environment when he had first arrived with RAD, and it was clear he missed out on the joys and comforts of living in a home.

Hilltop was very nervous when he first arrived in his foster home. He required some slower introductions to people and his surroundings, and he needed help to learn how to manoeuvre the stairs. Once he realized he was safe, he started to show more and more of his wonderful personality. He has proven to be a playful, loving and goofy dog. He loves playing with other dogs, and never seems to get tired of it! He could run around the yard for hours with his friends, if you would let him. He is gentle with his toys, and loves to play with them calmly on his bed as well. Hilltop is not afraid to let you know what he wants - he will use his front paws to get your attention and ask to be pet. Since he is nice and tall, he loves to rest his chin on your lap, or better yet the table, in order to beg for your food. If you’re not looking, he may even steal some right off your plate!

In terms of training, Hilltop is doing great. He knows to sit, he understands no, and he sleeps great in his crate throughout the night. Where he will still need some help though, is learning not to pull on leash. He is pretty strong, so he can be hard to restrain especially if he sees a squirrel. He can also be pretty headstrong, and if he doesn’t want to go somewhere he can plop down in protest. Cars make him nervous, he does not enjoy car rides and he does not appreciate cars passing him while he’s on a walk.

Hilltop has IBD, and requires a veterinary grade kibble to keep his flair ups under control. He does not require any other medication for his condition. He does not otherwise have any medical conditions, and so long as he eats his prescription diet and does not receive additional treats he is a happy and healthy boy!

His ideal home would be one where he will be able to get out and run or play every day, and have a nice warm place to curl up in at night. His family should be ready to take it slow when he gets home, and make sure to do proper introductions between him and new people or pets.

WORDS FROM HIS FOSTER:

We fell in love with Hilltop since day one and he will be in our minds for a long time. Please make sure you give him quality time to play or go on long walks, he loves hugs and kisses. It takes him time to get comfortable but give him that time and he will come to you! He can shed a lot when he is nervous but don't worry it stops when he is used to his environment. We love you and will miss you Hillyboy!
