ABOUT :

Papaya was originally purchased from a backyard breeder, where she was not exposed to enough at a young age and did not get enough socialization. She came to RAD quite scared of people and new things, and not knowing much.

Since being with her foster, Papaya has started to blossom! She has made herself comfortable in the home and has really started to show off her little personality. This girl is SUPER playful! She loves her squeaky toys, and will brazenly steal toys from her foster siblings - canine and feline alike - if she wants to play more! She is more than happy to play with her siblings as well. At first, Papaya had no manners when playing with other pets, but she has started to learn what appropriate play looks like through her interactions with another well balanced dog. Her adoptive home should have another dog so that Papaya can feel safer and continue to learn from her sibling. Although she can be very excited at times, she is overall calm and doesn’t require excessive exercise.

Outside of the home, Papaya still needs help learning to feel comfortable. She now accepts to wear a collar, harness and leash, but walking on leash is still not her favourite thing. She can get stressed out by the sounds and movements of outside, and looks to her person for comfort at these times. She does better when she has another dog walking near her. Inside the home, Papaya is not destructive. She is clean on pee pads, however sometimes she also thinks carpets are pee pads - she needs more help to learn the difference! She sleeps through the night, but she is not yet comfortable in her crate. She prefers sleeping in a human bed, cuddled up where she is warm. She can be left alone for 1-2 hours, but after this she becomes frustrated and can be vocal. For a little dog, she has a big bark! Sounds from apartment hallways can also trigger her barking, so a home where her voice won’t be a problem is essential.

If it isn’t already clear, Papaya loves other dogs! She is also totally fine with cats. Once she knows who you are, she also loves all people. She likes kids too, but we will not place her with younger children. When she moves to a new home she will be nervous at first, and will need her space to be respected and for her surroundings to be calm in order for her to best adjust.

WORDS FROM HER FOSTER:

Papaya is a perfect puppy! The first night she came home she was so scared of us, and would growl and cower away, but she instantly was happy when my dogs went to greet her. Once Papaya realized the humans of the house were safe, she became so loving and cuddly! She follows us around the house, and always wants to snuggle. She absolutely needs another dog wherever she ends up, her personality is so much brighter when she has a canine friend around her!
